Australia history
Australia's Indigenous peoples, with diverse cultures and languages, have inhabited the continent for over 65,000 years. In 1770, Captain James Cook claimed the eastern coast for Britain. In 1788, the First Fleet arrived, establishing a penal colony at Sydney Cove. The 19th century saw exploration, convict transportation, and the discovery of gold, driving rapid expansion. Federation in 1901 brought together six colonies into the Commonwealth of Australia. Both World Wars solidified its identity on the global stage. Since then, Australia has become a multicultural nation, with a thriving economy and vibrant cultural landscape.
